Sexual misconduct is a significant and highly damaging issue in the church. Most—if not all—pastors and ministry leaders will be tempted to engage in sexual misconduct at some point during their service. Fortunately, just as the incidence of certain illnesses falls with the appropriate inoculation, the incidence of sexual misconduct falls dramatically with appropriate training. This presentation addresses the moral, ethical and legal implications of sexual misconduct, the applicable codes of ethics, and the harmful effects on congregants and ministry teams. We will address factors giving rise to sexual misconduct and practical steps ministry leaders can take to resist engaging in such conduct.
