Jon Sovocool, LPC studied Christian Formation and Ministry at Wheaton College and earned his Master’s Degree in Counseling from Biblical Theological Seminary. He specializes in treating anger management, addiction, anxiety, trauma, depression, and bipolar disorder. In his work with clients, Jon brings compassion, biblical perspective and extensive clinical training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and DBT Prolonged Exposure, a trauma protocol.
For seven years (2011-2018) Jon worked in a community residential mental health setting with teenagers and adults struggling to cope with mental illness and addictive behaviors. Jon facilitated a variety of groups including: group therapy, DBT Skills Training and SMART Recovery. He also facilitated different trainings designed to enhance the efficacy of staff’s interventions.
Jon worked at several outpatient centers from 2009-2013 and has counseled at Diane Langberg PhD & Associates since December 2016. For the past two years he has been a participant in a NIMH funded study designed to evaluate the efficacy of the DBT Prolonged Exposure Protocol when implemented in community agencies.
Jon’s love of ministry was kindled as a volunteer serving in the preschool ministry, children’s ministry and student ministry. As an undergraduate student he completed a six-month internship in Nairobi, Kenya working with teenagers.
Jon is an avid Philadelphia sports fan, and enjoys outdoor activities such as biking and jogging. Jon and his wife Julia have been married for more than 10 years and have three young children.
